More about Sri Lankan Art & Cultural Museum NY

Sri Lankan Art & Cultural Museum was opened in March 27th 2017 at 668 Bay Street Staten Island NY 10304 by a young girl of 18 years old, Julia Wijesinghe . This Non-profit
Organization is run by Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka Inc. .
Julia was born and raised in New York from a Sri Lankan background family, where she built up her pride to Sri Lanka and its cultural values. When she begins to learn her ancestral heritage she started to see how vibrant it is that she wanted to be responsible to show it to the World. Her father is an artist and archeological enthusiast. He arranged the restaurant as well as his home with a fair amount of rare archeological artifacts collected from Sri Lanka. Julia always had been influenced by her father with his creativity right at home and at his restaurant . As for her father Lakruwana Wijesinghe opening the first Sri Lankan restaurant in New York she was glad and honored to finally open a museum of her own and being the first of it’s at abroad from Sri Lanka.
Lakruwana Wijesinghe is also a philanthropist that he donated his own 3 acre land for the benefit of the general public. This land located at Ratnapura Sri Lanka is accommodated beautifully with a shrine room for worship, a pre school , library with a playground and a community center. The expenses of these facilities are being funded and operated since 2004. Julia’s father did this in memory of his late loving mother L.K.B Premawathi.
Since then Julia Wijesinghe was also passed down the influence of charity work herself and will start to continue what her father started and with the museum she will build it up and make a difference.
