ARTHattack

Each year, six outstanding undergraduate papers are selected to present at an annual conference, typically held in March. Each conference is concluded with a keynote lecture from a prominent member of the art historical community. Topics chosen by students deal broadly with art history, aesthetics and visual culture, yet the program remains multidisciplinary and wide-ranging: indicative of the progressive approaches to research followed by art history students at the University of Guelph. Following each conference, an accompanying publication is released, in order to further showcase the academic talent found within our art history program.

Through ARTHattack, we recognize that the traditional classroom is not always sufficient in order to obtain a well-rounded education in a field as diverse as art history and visual culture. Thus, by providing students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and discuss ideas in an engaging environment outside of the classroom, we hope to contribute to the art history program at the University of Guelph, as it continues to flourish and grow.

Our aims:

- To represent the interests of undergraduate art history students while highlighting their academic talents and skills.
- To provide undergraduate students with a venue outside of the traditional classroom to develop the presentation and conference skills necessary for a career in any academic field.
- To foster an environment where undergraduate art history students can network and discuss ideas with their professors and peers.
- To act as an anchoring, community building event for the art history program at the University of Guelph.
