CODAs of Color

Based in New York City, the goal is to provide a safe environment where, CODAs of Color can learn, share, discuss and question the many common experiences we’ve had growing up in Deaf families.

American Sign Language is the primary language of the American Deaf community. Generally speaking, CODAs are exposed to American Sign Language (or variations of it) as their first language so why lose it? Cherish it. Get better at it and be proud of it. With respect to those that grew up with Oralism, let’s explore the reasons and history behind that.

Resources, information and support are also provided for CODAs of Color who may be interested in becoming professional sign language interpreters. Learning about Deaf Culture and helping with deaf senior parent/s needs and more are also offered.
