More about Eco-West / Éco-Ouest

Eco-West`s mandate is to help foster the growth and prosperity of Western Canada`s municipalities through the planning and implementation of a green economy infrastructure. This is accomplished through the creation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories and the development of Climate Change Local Action Plans (CCLAPs), and supporting municipalities that are seeking opportunities to bring green technologies to the marketplace, attract foreign direct investments as well as create a skilled workforce.

Eco-West’s activities thus include assisting rural and urban municipalities in their local and regional greening projects by capitalizing on the synergies that exist between economic and sustainable development. This is done by demonstrating that there are alternatives to the traditional solutions that are commonly used when it comes to the production and consumption of energy, as well as the use of the various by-products of human activity. In order to achieve these goals, Eco-West is active in the following sectors:

Energy
Transportation
Wastewater treatment
Waste management
Brownfield redevelopment
Local/regional agricultural products
Within the framework of its overall activities in the above-mentioned areas, Eco-West proactively seeks to establish partnerships with various stakeholders from all three levels of government, private enterprise as well as to encourage the participation of local residents in order to create a sustained dynamic for initiatives that deal with issues in the areas of energy, the economy as well as the environment.

The establishment and sharing of best practices is likewise an important aspect of Eco-West`s activities, as data and results from various studies can be studied and used by other communities that might be interested in developing their own local or regional action plan, and also in implementing projects that are similar to the ones that have already been launched elsewhere in Western Canada

Created in April 2014, Project Eco-West is an initiative resulting from the collaboration of Western Canada’s four Francophone Economic Development Organizations (FEDOs): Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba (CDEM), Conseil de la coopération de la Saskatchewan (CCS), Conseil de développement économique de l’Alberta (CDÉA), and Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique (SDÉ).
