Welcome to Whistler, mountain host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, ski resort nonpareil, and, oh yeah, my home.
Like the other 10,000 or so people who call this place home, almost all of us are in the business of making certain you have a very, very good time while you're here. Nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety of us moved here from somewhere else; we've chosen to live, work, raise families and play here. We couldn't do it without you and we're overjoyed to share it with you.
Whistler began as the crazy, Andy Hardy dream of a few businessmen and skiers in the early 1960s. "Hey gang, let's build a ski resort and host the Olympics," is more or less how the whole thing went down.
So, in February, 1966, Whistler Mountain opened for business at Creekside. The lifts were slow, the runs ungroomed and the road up from Vancouver was an adventure.
A decade later, new dreamers had built Whistler Village atop the old landfill. Before the third decade was over, Blackcomb had opened and the competition between the mountains was heated.
Eventually the Olympics agreed to come to the party and, now, you. So we created FAQ to help you get comfy and answer your many questions. Enjoy.
