Fort MacKay/Albian Aerodrome is located 8NM east northeast of Fort MacKay and approximately 2mi southwest of Albian Village, Alberta, Canada in the Athabasca Oil Sands area. Albian Aerodrome was originally built by Shell Canada but was sold along with Shell Canada's other Alberta oilsands asset on Mar 09, 2017 to Canadian Natural Resources Limited for $12.74-billion. The runway routinely handles aircraft up to Boeing 737 bringing in workers to Jackpine Mine, Muskeg River Mine and Imperial Oil's Kearl Oilsands Project. During the 2016 Fort McMurray Wildfire, Albian Aerodrome was one of the key aerodrome that provided flights to Calgary and Edmonton for thousands of evacuees also bringing in goods and supplies for evacuees that were staying at Albian Village.
