Our employees are specialists within the far reaching genre of optics creating a unique retail outlet which allows us to offer a complete eyewear division, an astronomy and birding division, all of which is encompassed by our science guy who can assist you with science related optics such as microscopes. In addition, we have a labware section, and as if that’s not enough, when your inquisitive and inspired academics come home with their science projects, requiring those unusual science related parts and pieces you have never heard of, or you just need help—we have got you covered. We also hold public Astronomy Observing Sessions.

OUR SPECIALISTS

We have good reason to be proud of our staff:

Susan Liebman – Optician Specialist:

Susan, our resident optician has thirty (30) years of experience within the eyewear industry. Her knowledge and expertise can help you choose that new pair of glasses, or make the right decision relative to lenses or coatings. K. C.'s “Board Certified Contact Lens” fitting designation will assure those of you who prefer contact lenses, are equally happy.

Gregory Hill – Science and Education Specialist:

Greg is our science guy, whose expertise will assist you in selecting the ideal microscope or the perfect labware for your experiments. Greg has spent twenty-six (26) plus years teaching math and the sciences. In addition, he has also tutored in these areas for the past fifteen (15) years at all grade levels, assuring those students who may need assistance, will indeed receive it.

Stephen Owen – Birding Photography and Astronomy Optics Specialist:

Steve has eighteen (18) years astronomy experience, plus he has spent the last five (5) years refining his birding skills. His proficiency relative to birding has reached the point that his photographs have been displayed in the Beaux-Arts Brampton Art Gallery; a non-profit organization promoting the arts.

Andrew Wareing – Astronomy Optics Specialist:

Andrew has thirty-five (35) years of experience and is an expert in “star hopping” and “constellation mopping.” He would like nothing better than taking the opportunity to share his experiences by assisting you in locating objects in the night sky; whether it is with a manual telescope or an automated system.

Leslie Bluestein – Astronomy Optics and Astronomy Education Specialist:

Les’s twenty-one (21) years of observing has been devoted to promoting beginners to astronomy. His association with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and conversely with the David Dunlap Observatory observing sessions, allows him to focus on all levels of experience, which he is eager to share.

But what does all of this mean, if you do not have an individual who can co-ordinate the astronomy trips, or the birding excursions—indeed very little.

Karen O’Kapiec – Community Programs Specialist:

Half of Karen’s life has been spent in Community Outreach as an event planner (she is even the team leader for the Mississauga Dragon Boat race team). It just would not make good sense to let all that planning experience go to waste. Proudly we can say it does not; Karen’s diligence in planning events and finding locations, assures the outings with the experts will be an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Bruce Engels & Marc Fitkin – Astronomy and Sport Optics Specialists:

So where do Marc and Bruce fit into all of this? Well their combined astronomy experience of forty-seven (47) years, in addition to eleven (11) years of birding and a lifetime of photography at all levels, assure that the instruction classes we oversee whether in store or on site create an unforgettable experience. We pride ourselves in our association through presentations and general interaction with the North York Astronomical Association and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada; further acknowledging the assurance that whether you are a sophomore or an expert, we are there to help whatever your needs.

NEW EYES OLD SKIES combined experience of 191 years, simply means that no matter what your mission is, be it eyewear needs, astronomy, birding or a large a school project you are dealing with, we can and want to assist you from start to finish. WE ARE THERE FOR YOU!
