More about Saves Goaltending

It is our goal at Saves to provide each individual goaltender with the ability to become more than just shot blockers. Rather, develop them into consistently successful goaltenders with a wide range of save techniques and knowledge of the game.

We at Saves Goaltending believe in teaching our goaltenders “good habits”.

Good habits means working hard and honestly at all aspects of the position. Saves understands that not all goaltenders play the position the exact same way and that is why we concentrate on skill development. Crease speed and foot work are a vital part of skill development in today’s changing and faster game. Crease speed allows goaltenders to be mobile, aggressive, arrived on-time and to be in control for every situation. Balance, speed and control in movement are key aspects to recovery for a rebound situation.
Too often today’s young goaltenders are over equipped, not mobile, not aggressive and too eager to drop down to the ice. This should be a major concern for all coaches today. The game is changing and as goaltenders we must make adjustments in our game. No longer can goaltenders afford to play blind and deep in the net and rely solely on their equipment. Goaltenders must see the puck in order to stop it with control.

Lack of foot speed, poor positioning and rebound control, leads to big holes which leads to soft goals.
The professional game always has a trickle down effect and to date, goaltenders are struggling with players getting smarter and more skilled at the game of hockey. They are taking advantage of more time and space in the game. The increase in soft goals from bad angles, poor rebound control and open ice shots has nothing to do with the reduction in the size of equipment. It has everything to do with the goaltenders who have poor net positioning and who have become over dependent on their equipment.
We don’t expect our goaltenders to meet our needs at Saves; we are here to exceed their needs. Our staff at Saves has experience in all levels of hockey from NHL, International, Olympic and Professional. We have the ability to exceed the needs of a child in this game, as well as the needs of the professional and/or an up and coming prospect.

Consistency in the position of a goaltender comes from skill development through practice, repetition, dedication and the willingness to learn in a fun, competitive and friendly environment.

We invite you to join the many that have and are still experiencing the Saves Goaltending difference.
