A Touch of Paradise Massage Therapy/Dawn Schwabe RMT

A bit about me and how A Touch of Paradise Massage Therapy came to be:
In June of 2005, I took a lay off package from the company I was working for in Calgary, and I thought that I would have some time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life… Boy was I wrong, but in the good sense. A week after the layoff I was approached my Aunt and Uncle to purchase my house, as they were needing a place in Calgary and I was debating on coming back to my roots. So obviously, I sold my house. Now being “jobless and homeless” I needed to get my butt in gear to figure out my life.
My Mom called me one day, as I was packing up my stuff, and mentioned to me, “I think you’d be good at being a Massage Therapist”. And now the seed was planted. I asked her to make an appointment with CDI College South Edmonton Campus for the following week to go take a tour and talk with the administration regarding the program. While there, I was encouraged to do the entrance exam for the College, so I did. Once the exam was graded, it was a no brainer that this was the career path I was destined to be on. I registered the same day for the September start-up of the program.
I applied myself 110% to my studies, and with my hard work and determination I graduated with top marks and was the recipient of the Award of Excellence from the College. During the practicum portion of the program I was working at The Renaissance Spa in St. Albert. When I was completed my school requirements with them, I was asked if I would like to stay on board for part time contract employment. I was delighted!
A funny story when it comes to this Spa... When I was around 16, I was actually visiting the Spa for a massage for myself, and while lying on the table, I had a thought that Massage Therapy could be an interesting career path to look into once I was done high school. But once the treatment was over, the thought never crossed my mind again until my Mom mentioned it. Interesting how my first thought of the career was in the same location that I was now working at as a Therapist.
During the final few weeks of school, I was already getting things in order for the start-up of my own business, and A Touch of Paradise Massage Therapy was born! When all the paper work and proper licensing was completed I was a viable business October 2, 2006.
I first started with 3 nights a week out of the house and 2 nights and Saturdays out of Renaissance. This was working for a while, but I became restless working out of the house... I am a social person and not having an outside influence, didn’t work well for me… At this pivotal point (May 2009), I was approached by a local Chiropractor to set up shop with him in his clinic. I was elated…
While doing the business portion of my schooling, my business plan was based on working in conjunction with a Chiropractor. So I closed up the home location and moved to the Clinic. I wasn’t quite ready to leave the Spa, so I cut my days back to one evening a week and the rest of the time to the Clinic. In September 2009 the Spa closed, so I moved to being full time at the Clinic. And that takes us to today…
My preferred type of treatment is Therapeutic, but I also can do relaxation, deep tissue and pregnancy massage.
My rates (effective January 2014) are:
30 min $45.00
45 min $55.00
60 min $75.00
90 min $105.00

Due to the high demand of the late afternoon appointments, I am implanting a $25.00 charge for no shows or late cancellations.
