Acanthus Art Society of Wyandotte was established in 1933 by the Wyandotte chapter of the American Association of University Women. It's purpose was, and still is, to promote cultural awareness and appreciation and enjoyment of the creative arts and crafts in the community. The society's aim is "dedication to art, it's love and purpose, for all ages." The greatest achievement of Acanthus Art Society was the creation of the original Wyandotte Art Fair in the 1950's.
Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the following months: September, October, November, February, March, April, and May. General public is welcome, with meetings starting at 6:30PM at the James R. DeSana Center for Arts & Culture located at 81 Chestnut in Wyandotte, MI.
Throughout the year, Acanthus Art Society hosts lectures and demonstrations on arts and crafts along with various exhibitions in the Downriver community.
