If your family is involved with MCFD or an Aboriginal delegated agency you can access Mediation services at any time. If an Agreement can be reached with all parties in Mediation, the families do not need to attend court. As a Mediator I provide a neutral ear to help everybody through the difficult discussions and create solid plans that all agree to. I provide a culturally sound service that welcomes extended family involvement and cultural practices to create a good and balanced environment for the family to create plans and work towards reunification with their children or simply to create access plans, safety plans, etc. Once we are done and all agreements are in writing then it becomes a legal document and the social worker can take the mediated agreement to court. Many people find this to be far less stressful than attending court and they also find they have more chance to voice their thoughts and ideas in a safe space.

As well, by having all parties and their supports sitting at the table creating realistic, community supported plans, the process builds relationships and reinforces the strengths that the family already possesses.

Mediation also holds all parties accountable - from the parents, to the extended family, to the social workers. After an initial meeting and drafting of an Agreement, we can all come back to the table again in a few months to ensure all parties have followed through on their tasks.

Fees for this service are typically paid for by the Ministry of Justices' office through the Attorney Generals office. I am not an employee of MCFD or any delegated agency.
