More about Angela Martens - Birth Doula

This is a pop up store of sorts! My name is Angela and I am offering birth doula services for those due between the months of June 2016 – September 2016. I am spending time in my hometown of Kelowna for these months and would love to be available for those who may not have a doula yet but have been thinking doula support might be for you!

A little about me:

For the past few years I have been living in the beautiful country of New Zealand studying midwifery. I am one year away from becoming a midwife and I can’t wait! I am also a certified doula so while I’m home I’d love to put my skills to use. I have attended over 4o births in all kinds of places and settings. In 2012 I volunteered at a birth centre in the Philippines and had the privilege to support women through the childbirth process and learn about new childbirth traditions. As a student midwife I worked in rural New Zealand attending home births and births in primary centers alike. I have also supported women in hospital and those who have birthed via caesarean section and assisted births, such as, forceps or ventouse. Childbirth is different for every single woman and no story is alike, each experience is unique and there are many forms and ways to cope through childbirth and ultimately birth your baby!

Whatever you have in mind for your birth plan I will support you 100 percent. As a doula I am there to offer you education and support. The support I offer comes in the form of encouragement, advocacy, physical support, such different positions, and massage, use of heat and cold, and breastfeeding assistance. I am available to answer questions and offer information on the childbirth process.
It is important to address the fact that childbirth is an unpredictable process and although planning is helpful and valuable the unforeseeable is a large element of childbirth. This can be a daunting reality to face but it is also something that every woman encounters. Childbirth is one of life’s most significant events and it is one of incredible joy and empowerment but it can also be difficult and challenging. Having support and encouragement can have significant impacts on your childbirth experience. I encourage you to find someone you trust to support you through your childbirth experience whether it’s a doula or a friend or family member who has experience with birth, I believe it will make all the difference in the world.
