3D Embroidery Eyebrows (Microblading)

Although this technique has been around for many years, especially in Asia, it is just starting to get big recognition North America. Permanent makeup artists are now starting to learn the techniques from their Asian counterparts and learning to complete this technique using a hand held blade, this technique is call micro blading or Microblading.

Micro blading uses a hand held pen with a very sharp blade at the tip. The artist dips the blade in the chosen color and proceeds to make incisions into the skin and creating hair strokes that look natural and realistic.

This technique can be used for clients that have thinning eyebrows, scarce eyebrows or no eyebrows at all. The permanent makeup artist can create the feathered eyebrow look from scratch and create realistic, natural looking, hair stroke eyebrows.

What does the procedure look like?
As mentioned above, permanent makeup is the application of pigment into the top dermal layer of the skin. The Microblading technique creates a natural looking, hair stroked eyebrows. Firstly, you should have a consultation with the artist to ensure a color match is completed and that you are happy with the shape of the eyebrows to be completed. The artist will shape your eyebrows using an eyebrow pencil to allow you to see the shape and look of the brows before starting the procedure. Numbing cream is applied to the area to make the procedure more comfortable. The artist will then begin the treatment to apply the pigment to the skin and create the hair strokes.

The treatment (pigment to skin) should only take 20-40 min to complete, depending on the complexity of the eyebrows and the experience of the artist. After the treatment your eyebrows may be red and swollen and it is important to listen to the artist regarding after care of your eyebrows to ensure the best results possible. Usually and after care sheet and kit are given to the client with steps to follow up to 7-10 days after your initial treatment.

A touch up will be required for your brows to correct shape, or add a few more hair strokes to ensure proper shape of the brows. This is normal and follows proper protocols.

Sometimes, a third touch up may be needed to get the perfect shape and dimension of the brows.

How long does it last?
Your eyebrows will last as long as it’s maintained. Untouched, the ink will last 1-3 years.

How often do I need a touch up?
Touch ups are recommended every six months to a year, to keep the color fresh and the strokes crisp.

Does it hurt?
There is some discomfort associated with the procedure. A topical anesthetic is used to numb the area. People say the sensation is similar to getting threaded.

Is this procedure good for everyone?
You are NOT a suitable candidate for this procedure if you are:
• Pregnant or nursing
• History of Keloids or Hypertrophic scarring
• Diabetic (require doctor's clearance)
• Chemotherapy (consult your doctor)
• Viral infections and/or diseases
• Epilepsy
• Pacemaker or major heart problems
• Organ transplant
• Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)
• Sick (cold, flu, etc.)
• Botox in the past 2 months
• Accutane in the past year
• Heart conditions, Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure, Poor general health.

What should I do to prepare for my procedure?
There’s no prep required. Leaving your eyebrows alone for a week (no tweezing, waxing or otherwise removing the hair) is preferred.

What should I do after the procedure?
Other than make sure your skin is dry and clean - not much. An aftercare kit will be given to you after the treatment is complete.

How long does it take?
The procedure takes roughly about two hours, sometimes more sometimes less. Please allow a solid two and a half hour window for your appointment. We likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something we want to rush.

Do I need to take a day off work?
No. There’s no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour after. Your brows will appear darker initially, but not so dark that you will be prevented from your activities of daily living.

How long does it take to heal?
Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to ten days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens. Then, the pigment takes some time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before we consider the process complete.
What can’t I do after the procedure?
You are advised to keep the skin clean and dry - that means no swimming, sweating or otherwise getting the area wet; no tanning or prolonged sun exposure; no picking or peeling the Microbladed surface. You can still wash your hair and face and once they’re healed up, you treat them as your own.

What if I don’t like it?
There are several things we can do. Your eyebrows can be modified to a point. A good technician will work with you until you are satisfied with your results.
