Awana started as the youth ministry of a church in Chicago. The North Side Gospel Center developed a weekly program that combined active games, relevant Scripture-based teaching, an outreach focus and motivation for Bible learning and achievement.
As Awana reached thousands of children and youth, other churches asked about its availability. In response, the Awana Youth Association was founded. In our 60th year of ministry, there are 38 churches in the Manitoba and Northewestern Ontario (Mantario) area, 400 churches in Canada, over 12,000 in the U.S. and 10,000 churches, schools and orphanages in nearly 100 other countries.
Awana weekly programs for ages 2 to 18 emphasize biblical teaching that targets the specific needs of kids at each level of spiritual development. Awana aims to equip parents and churches with the tools to lead children and youth to salvation in Christ.
