Welcome Wagon was founded in 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee by Thomas Briggs, a newspaperman and in 1930 he brought the company to Canada. He was inspired by the stories of Conestoga wagons heading
westward and being greeted with warm hospitality and fresh provisions by
the local community. Welcome Wagon in Canada has carried on this same spirit of hospitality and welcome when families move. Representatives, who are friendly and
knowledgeable about their own community, personally present civic information and gifts on a visit to welcome the new family. Welcome
Wagon continues to visit families on their move and over the years we have touched the lives of millions of families.
Things however have changed and now there are many two-income
families with little time to accept a visit. In some areas, especially in major
centres, our door-to-door neighbourly visits are becoming less than in the
past. However, Welcome Wagon will continue to connect the new families
with the business community.
Welcome Wagon is now greeting families through the mail with an
attractive custom-designed envelope and coupons from the local business
community.
Our delivery method may not be our traditional basket but our mission
remains the same:
To connect families, who have moved, with the local business
community as they settle into their new home.
