I am the NDP candidate for Vernon-Monashee in the May 9 provincial election. I am running to be your MLA because I am convinced that politics matters! The decisions politicians make directly affect our health care, our education, our economy, our environment, and host of other issues that have a huge influence on our well being.

Are we satisfied with having the second worst rate of child poverty in Canada? Is it okay that we have the highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the country? Are we okay that our carbon emissions continue to grow each year? Does it matter that BC is the only province without a poverty reduction plan? How do we feel about being called the “Wild West” of political financing?

As voters we can’t afford to sit on the sidelines and say, “It doesn’t matter because politicians are all the same.” When we give in to cynicism we leave a vacuum that will be filled by people whose interests are not the same as ours. But when we engage and exercise our power, we can make a difference. Hope is politics in action. Let’s get active!
