Quick - where is your happy place?

I hear that question a lot these days. In this hurried world we live in, it seems everyone needs a place of calm, to unwind and recharge – even if it's only in our dreams. But why should we have to go somewhere for that? What if we actually lived in our happy place? Shouldn't our home nourish our souls?

My happy place is a little blue cottage our family owned years ago. It was an old “vintage” cottage and needed a lot of work, but we loved it anyway. As we set about repairing and making it ours, I learned a lot about the power of paint. I discovered how rewarding it is to turn something old and once forgotten into something beautiful and loved again.
Our family holds memories of it very close to our hearts. My husband and I bought it when our youngest daughter was just a baby. She and her 2 sisters grew up there and I'm proud to say, it is a part of who they are today.

Fast forward many years; we no longer have the cottage. When our daughters made empty nesters of us, I turned my love of fixing things up into a home staging business. But I often found myself reminiscing about those summers at our little blue cottage. The memories have inspired a slight change for me. I could no longer resist the pull of those old forgotten treasures so I've gone from updating homes to updating furniture.
