More about Canadian Airborne Forces

This page is dedicated to all those who have served in the
Canadian Airborne Forces from their inception in 1942 up to this present day. During World War II, this included the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion (1 Can Para) (and 2 Can Para), and the joint American-Canadian "First Special Service Force" (FSSF), a unique 'commando' style formation, second to none. Through the 1950's and 1960's, it was the SAS Company, the "Defence of Canada Force" (DCF) and the "Mobile Strike Force" (MSF). These kept the tradition alive until the formation of the Canadian Airborne Regiment (Cdn AB Regt (CAR)) in 1968. One of the finest military formations in Canadian history, the CAR existed until 1995 when it was disbanded due to events in Somalia and at home, fanned by short-sighted political opportunists and a misguided press/media. (This needs to be reversed.) But we also celebrate Canada's "down to the bone" airborne capability today - in the form of the three "Jump Companies" one of which exist within 3 PPCLI, 3 RCR & 3 R22eR - plus the airborne-qualified troopers of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) and Joint Task Force 2 (JTF-2).
