More about Cedars & Co.

The supermarket is filled with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as grocery items, a self-serve bulk section, a deli, a meat, poultry and fish section as well as free range farm eggs and freshly made in-house foods.
Brian has provided this supermarket with a candid approach in remaining in tune with today’s current nutritional trends. Cedars & Co offers a fresh choice of numerous organic produce, dairy free products, high protein foods and nutritious meals for those on the go. This also means a variety of local produce from farm growers in Ontario and Quebec. There is an extended variety of products in the gluten free section for those with restricted diet preferences.

Being in the heart of Old Ottawa South makes it wonderfully attractive due to its’ free parking. The market is also walking distance from local homes in the community. The simple design of the market is welcoming. Brian’s goal is to serve quality goods at lower prices.

While shopping at Cedars & Co., you may also enjoy dining in the Shawarma side of the market where, chicken and beef shawarma are served as well as, fish and chips and vegetarian foods.

Student and Senior Discounts are also available.

YELP:
R.H. says:

“This cozy homey store has got the best of two worlds – A grocery store with pretty much anything you need AND a Shawarma spot!

It’s close to my apartment and has very friendly employees that are always smiling and conversing with you.

Main reasons I go there are because of the 10% student discount (everyday!!), the hummus (the red pepper and the olive ones are my fav) and the falafel! I stopped eating shawarma because of turning into a vegetarian but when I did, they were great and always packed with whatever you want.

They’re also always changing it up; which is great because that means they’re always looking for ways to make it better! “

Catherine D. says:

“Amazing service and staff. The produce is top-notch, I love the fact that it is close and there’s always someone there with a welcoming smile and a “Hello, Dear” or “How are you, my dear?”. :)
Really Wonderful grocery with great organic products and produce. Love the bulk nuts and beans, etc… They are obviously very careful with their produce selection.

The prices are v. good and competitive — much, much better than FarmBoy (sorry, FarmBoy).

The Salmon here is excellent, too.

Tip: Maybe stay away from the organic butter (have had to return it a few times for turning) , but don’t feel that’s a reflection on Cedars.

Friendly atmosphere and a Great local grocery with high standards in quality and service.

And a 10% student discount!!”

Ken C. says:

“They care.

They have consistently improved the quality of the produce they sell. They now sell fish, meat and organic produce.

I go to big stores only to buy bathroom stuff like soap, toilet paper etc

Hope they keep doing what they do and stay here. It s great to see the improvement. They are the main store i go to!”

OTTAWA FOODIES:

Grace Ross says:

“Hi — I have been liking this place better and better although they have had growing pains. Try the pear jam — it’s the best ever. And they have excellent little pasta sauces in the organic section near the back. Vegan daughter lives on them. Also an amazing ricotta fresca, best I have ever had, including Nicastro’s, and real Greek yogurt, and ayram from Turkey — not as good as home made, but not bad. We had fresh sole from there last night and I was wondering just how fresh it would be. It was perfect.”

Bordeaux Jo Jo says:

“I hadn’t been to Cedars in a while – on purpose, actually as several times I found that they only had some of what I was looking for (not strange items, either). If I have to make a second stop to find some of what I need, the convenience of a local store is diminished.

I’ve been back several times in the past month or so, and I’m really pleased with what I see. I think they have finally figured out what they want the store to be. Gone is the bakery counter, taking up space that could have been (and now is) used to allow for a more complete selection of fruits and vegetables. Quality of the produce continues to be very good. The cheese selection is much improved. The dry goods, dairy, etc. are now quite dependable. If I get halfway through a recipe and realize I’m missing an ingredient, I have confidence that a trip to Cedar’s will likely do the trick.”

URBAN SPOON:

Barb says:

“Wonderful variety of interesting, tasty home-made take-out Middle Eastern food (try the mint hummus! try the kale salad!), as well as some of the freshest pita in the city.

Plus very friendly, personable service.

And the aroma when you go through the door is delightful.

This place should be thronged. Go – now! And go often. My husband and I have made it a weekly staple.

The cafeteria-style restaurant on one side of the store is also well worth frequenting. The dishes are very tasty, and reasonably priced, too.”

Tizzad says:
“Absolutely the best food market in the city and the shawarma there is some of the best in the city. The people are all helpful, easy-going, and kind. The food is reasonably priced, especially for students, and there are often wonderful sales going on. You can get cheaper produce, sometimes, at other grocery stores–but you won’t find a cooler place to buy your food. Nor should you, because this place deserves your business. Buy their bags for two dollars too, cheap-skate. It’s cooler than that bag you’ve got from IKEA.”
