Our story:
The problem
The artisan industry used to be the second largest source of income for locals in Kenya. Around 80% of the revenue of these artisans comes from tourists. However, for the last couple of years Kenya’s tourism industry has taken a hit due to terrorist attacks. This in turn has heavily affected the Kenyan artisans, driving them out of business and leading to financial instabilities. Currently, the average wage for a Kenyan artisan is US $1.50 a day - an amount barely enough to sustain a household.

How we help
Since these artisans do not have access to the outside world and heavily rely on tourists coming to Kenya, Circle of Beads was founded on the belief that the Internet can be used to connect the artisans to international markets, with the goal aimed to provide them with opportunities that will change and improve their lives.
With Circle of Beads’ online platform (currently through Facebook), the artisan communities in Kenya now have access to consumers globally. It drastically expands their business prospects and further encourages creativity and innovation in what they do, allowing an opportunity for them to build a substantially better and brighter future.
