I live in Pictou County, Nova Scotia not far from a wonderful beach called Melmerby . In the Canadian Maritimes we are blessed with these special places. The “Merb” has always been a big part of my life – a place to laugh, love, cry, grieve and heal. Most of all it is a place to discover the simple pleasures in life. Whether I am wandering in the sand to plan what I will do tomorrow or taking a walk to forget about my day, I can always rely on the power of the beach to refresh my soul and remind me that life is good.

A walk on the beach can reveal the gifts which higher powers have hidden years ago and the days tide has chosen to uncover. Many have gone before me and not noticed the delightful design elements the beach has to offer. As I take my time and listen to the waves, smell the fresh air and scan over whatever presents itself at my feet. I begin to see colors, shapes, and images. I pocket these little treasures and take them to my studio. Later I rearrange nature’s building blocks - keeping the images simple and taking the time to see the beauty in each individual element.

It is in creating these images that the lessons and comfort from the beach stay with me. Simple treasures that are truly gifts from the sea………Kelley
