I teach classical piano using the materials of the Royal Conservatory of Music. There is a lot of variety in the repertoire, but I also supplement the classical repertoire using the music of Christopher Norton and the popular music arrangements and original compositions of Dan Coates, Dennis Alexander, and Martha Meir among others. I believe it is necessary to become musically expressive in as many ways as the student wishes.
I also teach all the co-requisites required for the completion of the Royal Conservatory graded Certificates. These include Rudiments, Harmony, History, Counterpoint and Analysis. I particularly enjoy teaching the History and Analysis courses.
Musical skill and understanding are an important life skill and should be used with great pleasure not only as a personal skill but as a way of enjoying the performances of others in all the musical genres.
