I first found an interest in drawing when I was 8 years old as I watched my father draw cowboys in hats with a cigarette in their mouths, all the while trying to copy his drawings. I continued to be intrigued with drawing such cartoons as Charlie Brown and Flintstone cartoons as well as simple line drawings.
It was when I entered Saskatoon's Walter Murray High School in 1969 and attended art classes taught by Mr. Paul Kolysher, when I became very interested in art. I learned so much from him over four years. I showed my appreciation for his working with me as a student, when I saw him at an art show at the Saskatoon Mendel Art Gallery in the 1990s; after which, my family and I invited Mr. Kolysher to our home for visits over the years.
After many years of landscape painting, I felt an urge to switch gears and I began experimenting in abstract painting styles.
This work resulted in my 'Taylor Teknique' paintings. I also painted other abstract painting explorations.
I feel a balance now in my paintings with abstract, landscape or wood sculpture options.
An idea somehow begins in my mind; of which, I feel a need to express in some manner. Sometimes I need no planning, as my vision is ever present and accessible. Other times a painting requires many sketches or small preliminary paintings.
It may sound strange; but, I have ideas, sketches and memories I have yet to finalize on canvas. Some day,...some day.
