Define Yoga

Founded in 2012, Define Yoga is a response to the current paradigm characterizing the Yoga industry and practice. Through which teachers and practitioners alike are increasingly trying to define themselves. Definitions shape our experience of the world. They structure and inform the way we process information about ourselves and others. To define something is both a question and a challenge, a theory and a practice, a thought and an action; and, a point of reference and a limit. Yet, somewhere along the trodden road of self inquiry the questions we ask and the answers we give do render themselves as strangely familiar to each other. And, the struggle to find answers becomes neatly bound to the spirit of what calls us to ask and relentlessly search for them. There is a bizarre, though tender, irony eclipsed in the fact that those things we try to define most continue to elude definition. Yoga rests here: beyond definition, though somehow calling us tirelessly to try and define and redefine it. It is in this wordless realm of uncertainty but subtle arena of truth that we ask people to venture and explore, to get safe and unsafe in. Because it is fun. Because it is empowering. But also, because it is necessary.
