More about Dr. Jody Carrington

In my heart, I am a believer in two things... First, I am a believer in the idea that you are exactly where you need to be. No matter how painful. No matter how wonderful. But wherever you are, you need to be there. Second – I believe that everyone has a “story” and it is this story that guides your relationships. Understanding your own story can help you make sense of where you’ve come from and help in the writing of all future chapters that await. I have worked with adults and children, as well as families, and I would be honoured to learn about your story and perhaps influence your next chapters.

My treatment approach has been influenced by the Circle of Security (Cooper, Marvin, Hoffman, and Powell), Dr. Gordon Neufeld’s theories surrounding the importance of assisting children to “mature” in the face of adversity, and Dr. Brene Brown’s concept of vulnerability. All are wise contributors to the modern-day understanding of 'attachment'. But, most influential in my work is the perspective that Dr. Marlene Moretti has developed in her *Connect program.

Where to find me:

Private Practice
I have a Private Practice in Olds, where I enjoy working with with parents and children who are struggling with a range of relationship issues and mental health struggles, including anxiety, depression, behavioural difficulties, and school problems. I also do trauma and grief work with children and families.

Landmark Collaborative Health
Once a week, I work at a private collaborative health care clinic in Calgary. You will find me there collaborating with an amazing group of professionals to support patient relationship and mental health struggles.

Connect Training
I have also teamed up with Dr. Marlene Moretti and Karla Braber (the founders of the *Connect program) to spread the word via training events for professionals and staff groups, throughout Alberta. My colleagues and I have also facilitated *Connect groups in the community.

Consultations & Speaking Engagments
One of my favorite things to do is talk about what I am passionate about. I have spent afternoons at local schools and doing small talks to day care staff, and have presented at conferences and workshops nationally and internationally. If you’re interested in how attachment and your relationships with your children, parents, students, staff, clients, and/or colleagues, can be powerful in affecting your life and those important to you, I would be happy to speak with you.

*Connect is an attachment based program to support parents and caregivers of pre-teens and teens with difficult behavioural and emotional problems.
