Welcome to Dragon Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do is Bruce Lee’s art of Interception. It is a process where one cultivates awareness and builds instinctual skills to make quick decisions in unpredictable situations. In Jeet Kune Do, the individual is more important than the style or system. Its primary aim is the true self-expression of the individual.

Interception is the ultimate reality in JKD. Although there are many principles used in JKD, there are 4 that are considered key to making interception work:

• Simplicity
• Economy of motion
• Longest weapon to the nearest target
• Always think of hitting

To intercept requires first and foremost awareness, followed by a quick response through relaxation along with body acceleration. The JKD path involves a set of progressions, key principles and specific training, until one discovers what Sifu Jerry referred to as “THE OPEN END.” This is where Jeet Kune Do takes on a whole new paradigm; in essence, it becomes subjective.

Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee founded the art of Jeet Kune Do in the mid 60’s, which is comprised of modified Western Boxing, modified Wing Chun, and modified Fencing principles. Bruce believed in putting the opponent on the defensive, thereby allowing one to have the edge in any situation. As Bruce Lee put it “Jeet Kune Do means the way of the intercepting fist, or foot.” In order for you to hit me, you must move to me, allowing me the opportunity to intercept you.

Jerry Poteet

Sifu Jerry Poteet was an exceptional human being. He was an incredible teacher. He taught the art of Jeet Kune Do for more than 40 years, as it was taught to him by Bruce Lee. Sifu Jerry was one of an exclusive group of five students, hand picked and privately trained by Bruce Lee in Los Angeles. Jerry was referred to as the “Conscience” of Jeet Kune Do, and considered by many to be the purest in keeping Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do alive.

Marc Seguin

I have been training in the art of Jeet Kune Do with Sifu Darryl D’Amico since 2005. In 2007, I began my training with Sifu Jerry Poteet, and became a certified instructor under him in 2010. What I love most about this art is that it is not only about punches and kicks. The art goes beyond the physical. The philosophy and principles behind Jeet Kune Do is what makes this art so appealing and fulfilling. It is a complete art in every sense of the word. The art runs deep and is designed to help us discover our potential, not only on the physical sense, but also the philosophical and even spiritual. Every step of the way is designed to help you progress, evolve, and refine your skills, whether it is audio, visual, tactical, or instinctual. As Jerry used to tell me, “Jeet Kune Do is simple, but not easy”. It is a process of un-shedding everything that is unnecessary, thus revealing the source of Truth.

Although the basis of this philosophical fighting art is about self defence, more importantly it’s to discover oneself. This is what stood out to me when Jerry told me: “Jeet Kune Do is one way to find “IT”.” The JKD journey is one of excitement, hard work, learning, introspection and ultimately, peace with oneself.
