Born in Hamilton, daughter of a proud steelworker, Filomena Tassi was a corporate lawyer for six years before entering into a life of public service. Twenty years ago Filomena became a chaplain at a local high school mentoring youth and families.
Filomena has a record of effective volunteering for numerous local charities and organizations. While serving as a Chaplain she co-founded D.R.E.A.M.S (Dominican Republic Education And Medical Support). This organization has facilitated mission trips for thousands of youth. They have constructed over 200 homes and raised hundreds of thousands dollars for the materially poor in the region of Ocoa, Dominican Republic.
As a life-long learner and school board trustee, Filomena has always had a passion for education. She co-created an experiential leadership program for youth in the Hamilton Catholic Board. A number of graduates from this program have entered professions of international development and service work.
Filomena is a lifelong Hamiltonian who is proud to represent the people of Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas as their Member of Parliament. She currently serves as Deputy Government Whip.
