Future Roots Halifax

Future Roots is a revenue generating business that has social goals.

Future Roots connects youth and their neighbours in the North End of Halifax, by recruiting, training and supervising youth between the ages of 14-19 who then provide quality service for seniors, neighbours, local businesses - or anyone who needs a helping hand.

Future Roots prepares youth for the working world by providing youth with relevant employment experience, peer interaction, mentorship, as well as ongoing professional development training. Our business will foster inter-generational connections and neighbourhood-level resilience.

Services include leaf raking, yard clean-up, consistent lawn mowing, help retrieving groceries, and accompaniment on excursions. While on the job, youth will be supervised to ensure safety and success on the job.

Future Roots participants are investing their own time to receive training in customer service, first aid, WHMIS, as well as other workshops and training opportunities that arise. Time spent on workshops and training will build confidence and a portfolio for future success in the workforce.
