About the owner:
Jason Gaunce- Owner- I started working on anything thing mechanical at a very young age and enjoy every minute of it. At the age of eight our family acquired of first three wheeler,If i remember correctly my father bartered it in the deal of a masonry job he did, this was a turning point in my love for things mechanical because until this point i had only worked on bicycles and lawn mowers. The Three wheeler did not run when we got it but with help from my father we got it running. That bike became the building block for all my future learning mechanical and electrical.Through the years that bike was disassembled and reassembled so many times so i could learn the inner workings of it lol. I owned a few more there wheelers over the years, what ever i could find not running so i could fix it then I started working at a service station at the age of 15 where i was hired to pump gas, but within no time i was changing and rotating tires, adjusting and changing brakes. In High school I took every automotive course available. In grade 12 i was asked along with the top marking trade students in the school to write a test where the top two students have a chance to compete in a a hands on Diagnostic and repair competition against the top 12 high schools in Atlantic Canada.Myself along with a friend of mine received the combined written marks and top personal written marks in Atlantic Canada
We went to Moncton NB where they cleared out the showroom of the Lincoln Ford and the top 12 High Schools in Atlantic Canada competed in a timed event where all 12 vehicles were identical with identical problems, We had 90 mins to correct 18 issues from serpentine belts removed to a short in the wiring to a taillight. We Won 1st Place. We received some Snap On tools and we also Won an Ford F-150 for our school to use as a learning tool in the Automotive shop.We were asked along withe the 2nd place team to compete in the National Competition in Winnipeg,Manitoba.
Ford and CAA were putting this competition on and flew us along with our Automotive teacher out west to compete during an air show/exhibit with the Snow Birds Canada's military aerobatic Jets. We put forth our best effort and received a notable mention award(We were later told we had more problems diagnosed with our car but where it would not drive to the finish line we couldn't be awarded the winner and were unofficially the 4th place team) sorry just a little bragging lol
I Finished High school on time that year and started full time at an automotive repair shop in Saint John for a short period until i received and Offer from Downey Ford to come work for them, so i did.I always had an interest in Diesel Mechanics so after working for a year i Went to NBCC in St Andrews and took the Marine diesel mechanics course where i learned even more than i thought i would, especially at an age when i knew it all, well i thought lol, we focused on engine rebuilding and rebuilding marine transmissions along with many other skills to do with diesel engines.
I finished with good grades and was awarded an award for Best all around student by my teachers, They later told me they had to give it to me because no matter what need to be worked on i could and was willing to do it.
I started working out of my mothers garage after NBCC, which we can say she wasn't too thrilled about haha, but it payed my bills and funded my obsession with Cars,Trucks, bikes or anything fast.
I was 20 when i decided to try the Alberta career world, It was quite the change but within no time i was working at a Truck and trailer repair shop in Edmonton, AB,I started my truck and transport venture in a shop that even today i will say was the best job i have ever had, but it just wasn't home so this Maritime boy headed back east just before my one year mark.
I came home to a world of opportunity with more knowledge under my belt, I began working at Downey Fords new and larger establishment and a Diesel technician where i learned the joys of the ford Powerstroke Engines lol ,I think i must have had ants in my pants at that age because i couldn't sit still at one shop very long lol So i left and Went to Bayview International in Saint John to get back into working on Transport trucks.I continued working along until i had a few health issues, carpal tunnel in both hands and the Drs told me i was too young to have this and should find another line of work, So i applied to become a part of the International Brother Of Boilermakersand i was accepted. So over the next five years i finished my apprenticeship and became a Red Seal Boilermaker, where i work as a fitter/rigger.We erect various tanks, boilers and other pressure vessels commonly found in power plants, refineries, pulp and paper mills or many other industrial sites. but within those years whenever i wasn't working for the union i was wrenching on anything from skidders and chippers cars, ATVs and motorcycles. An have done so until I officially opened My shop Gearhead Garage

We are also a Snowdogg snow plow dealer we sell and install all Snowdogg Products
