Georgia Strait Alliance

Commitment: We are committed to a future for our region that includes clean water and air, healthy wild salmon runs, rich marine life and natural areas, and sustainable communities achieved by using the best available science, precautionary principle, experience, traditional ecological knowledge, and in consideration of community values.

Goals - Georgia Strait Alliance works to:
Protect biodiversity and wildlife habitat;
Restore the region’s water and air quality;
Promote the social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainability of the region’s communities;
Foster understanding and stewardship of the marine environment;
Raise awareness of the links between the health of ecosystems and human communities;
Recognize the rights and title of First Nations, and where appropriate, to work in partnership with them in achieving the above goals.

There are over 113 marine species at risk in and around Georgia Strait, a number that has nearly doubled in the last three years. Their protection and the protection of their habitat are what drive all our work, as is the sustainability of the communities of the Strait. In the coming three years, our priorities will be:

1. Oil and fossil fuel spill prevention
2. Building a healthy community through our shared waterfront
3. Increasing public understanding of and engagement of local ocean issues

These goals and priorities will be achieved through the following programs:
