GRYC

The islands of the Gatineau River Yacht Club (GRYC) have been home to sailors of the the Municipality of Chelsea since 1962.

The Club is a family‑oriented, volunteer-driven, cooperative, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting and encouraging active participation in the sport of sailing and other water-related recreational activities. All activities at the GRYC respect the environment and the ability of the Club's islands and of the Gatineau River to sustain those activities on a long-term basis.

The Club is volunteer-run. A small staff is hired during the summer months for the summer camps and some of the administrative and maintenance duties. In order for the members' fees to be kept down and for the islands to maintain their beauty, all members are expected to pitch in.

The Youth Program, whose popularity is increasing every year, is dedicated to providing a unique experience for young sailors aged 9 to 16. The GRYC offers campers fully bilingual instruction with no sailing experience required, and emphasizes the importance of safety and learning as its main goals. With a focus on fun, young sailors will improve their knowledge of the weather and of navigation principles while gaining the skills and confidence associated with operating a sailboat.
