J&S Refurbishments

James painted inbetween acting gigs for a company in Toronto for years before getting married and moving to Durham. After a year of commuting he decided to start his own business and through word-of-mouth, JG Paints quickly went from side job to flourishing business.
Refurbishing and painting furniture has allowed James to use the skills he’s honed over the years while still exercising his creative muscles.

Taking something pre-loved and breathing new life into it has become James’ creative outlet and healthy addiction.

I’ve always loved the refurbishing process - mostly because 1) it helps with my anxiety, 2) I love a good creative challenge and 3) I’m cheap. Being a mom to two toddlers is my full-time job – and brainstorming pieces of pre-loved furniture once the kids are in bed is my therapy.

I love to find interesting pieces and give them a makeover. I continue to explore techniques such as decoupage, stenciling, distressing, spackling, colour-washing/dry-brushing etc, in order to create new and custom pieces of art.
