Lisa Thibodeau was a young woman who lived in our community until her sudden death at the age of 30. She made a large impact on many who met or knew about her. She never won any awards and she did not receive a diploma when she finished school. She was never employed until she was hired by the Clare Organization Representing Persons with Disabilities (C.O.R.D). for the social enterprise called “Snack Attack”, therefore becoming C.O.R.D.’s first social enterprise employee. She is proof of how employment can change a life. Lisa enjoyed going out with friends for tea and inspired the idea of a social enterprise café, thus making Lisa T. Cafe the best name for the café. Some of Lisa’s happiest times were spent at the rink on the campus of Université Sainte-Anne, a stone’s throw from the Café.

Lisa Thibodeau était une jeune femme qui vivait dans la communauté de Clare jusqu'à sa mort subite à l'âge de 30 ans. Pour toutes les personnes qui ont rencontré Lisa, elle a eu un impact sur leur vie. Elle ne gagnait ni des prix ou ni des trophées pour ses accomplissements, et elle ne terminait pas ses études à l'école. Lisa n'avait pas eu d'emploi jusqu'à ce que (C.O.R.D.) Clare Organizing Representing Persons with Disabilities) l’embauchait comme leur première employée pour l'entreprise sociale nommée ''Snack Attack''. Elle est sans doute un modèle à suivre, car avoir la possibilité de travailler un emploi valorisant a changé sa vie. Lisa aimait sortir avec ses amis pour boire du thé et inspirait l'idée d'un café comme une entreprise sociale, dont le nom Lisa T. Café. Parmi les souvenirs les plus mémorables et plaisants de Lisa furent vécus à la patinoire de l'Université Sainte-Anne, située presque à côté du Café.

Why this is Important / L'importance du Café
The proposed café will be of benefit to the entire community. The most evident group to benefit from this venture will be those who are currently facing barriers to employment. They will be able to gain work experience and meaningful employment. Giving individuals an opportunity to work enriches their lives. Employees will have the opportunity to interact with more community members than they would otherwise. The skills learned at the Lisa T. Café are transferable to many employment situations and will prepare individuals for jobs in the community.

Toute la communauté bénéficiera du café. On compte parmi ceux qui en bénéficieront de cette entreprise, les personnes ayant des barrières face à l'emploi. Grâce au Lisa T Café, ces personnes seront en mesure de développer des expériences de travail et avoir un emploi valorisant en interagissant avec les gens de la communauté. Les habiletés de travail acquises au Café sont transférables à plusieurs autres emplois et aideront à préparer ces personnes pour d'autres emplois dans la communauté.

C.O.R.D.: Founder and owner of the Lisa T. Café. Overall responsibility for the successful operation of the Social Enterprise. C.O.R.D. is the successful operator of the Snack Attack Social Enterprise and in the past year also provided an employability skills program for persons facing barriers to employment.

C.O.R.D.: Propriétaire et fondataire du Lisa T Café, C.O.R.D. s'engage à l'opération de cette entreprise sociale et est l'opérateur de Snack Attack Social Entreprise, qui au fur et à mesure des années a aidé à fournir un programme de développement des habiletés pour les personnes ayant des barrières au marché du travail.

Rendez-vous de la Baie Centre (Municipality of Clare): The Municipality of Clare operates the Rendez-vous de la Baie Visitor Centre and includes a number of functions: Acadian interpretive centre/museum, visitor information centre, art gallery, souvenir boutique, meeting room and cultural programming. It is at the core of the community’s tourism strategy. The Municipality has offered to lease the onsite Café and boutique (including all physical assets) to C.O.R.D. for $1 per year. C.O.R.D. has also made a number of requests to the Municipality for leasehold improvements and new furniture.

Université Sainte-Anne: University contributions include:
- Free electricity, heat, water, janitorial services, snow removal
- Continued sale of University branded clothing/souvenirs at the Boutique (with a commission paid to C.O.R.D. for each sale)

- GRATUIT: l'électricité, la chaleur, l'eau, les services de nettoyage et le déblaiement de la neige.

- Vente continue de marchandises/souvenirs à la Boutique (avec une commission payée à C.O.R.D. pour chaque item vendu).

ENACTUS Sainte-Anne: ENACTUS Sainte-Anne is a student run non-profit organization. Students from ENACTUS assisted with the market research and have expressed an interest in continuing to provide volunteer services to the Lisa T. Café. A representative from ENACTUS will also be invited to join the Lisa T. Café Management Advisory Committee.

ENACTUS Sainte-Anne: ENACTUS Sainte-Anne est une organisation à but non lucratif formée d'étudiants. Les étudiants d'ENACTUS aideront avec la recherche de marchés et ont exprimé leurs intérêts de faire du bénévolat au Lisa T Café. Un représentant d'ENACTUS sera aussi invité de joindre le conseil d'administration du Lisa T Café.

International Students at the University: The café will offer special events with a focus on international foods. Students with origins outside of our country will be given opportunities to share their local cultures with other students, faculty, and our entire community. We see this as a unique opportunity for cultural integration.

Les étudiants internationaux de l'Université Sainte-Anne: Le café mettra l'emphase sur les mets internationaux lors d'évènements spéciaux. Les étudiants d'origine hors du Canada auront la chance de partager leurs mets locaux ainsi que leurs cultures avec d'autres étudiants, des membres de la faculté ainsi que les membres de la communauté. Ceci permettra une occasion tout à fait unique pour l'intégration culturelle.

Community Volunteers: Community volunteers will play an active role in the operation of the Lisa T. Café. Volunteers will also be recruited for the Lisa T. Café Management Advisory Committee.

Bénévoles communautaires: Des bénévoles communautaires joueront un rôle actif dans les activités journalières du Lisa T Café. Des bénévoles seront aussi demandés de former le conseil d'administration du Lisa T Café.

C & R Care and Consulting: Ron Robichaud provides active guidance and support in the continued operations of the Lisa T Café.

WOW! Food Systems: John Henry, President of WOW! Food Systems provided active assistance in the set-up and launch of the Lisa T. Café. Other employees of WOW! Food Systems, including a Red Seal Certified Chef assisted in menu planning and as trainers for the first candidates for employment experience opportunities at the café.
