More about Little Maple Wellness

Hello and welcome to my official massage therapy page! Hopefully in this bio you'll be able to find all the information you need, however if you don't see the answer to your question below please feel free to send me a message.

WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Taylor and I am currently a student at Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in Vernon, BC. I will be graduating the summer of 2017 and then taking my board exams to become a Registered Massage Therapist shortly after. I am hoping to build my clientele and gain experience as a mobile massage practitioner, as well as help improve your overall quality of life.
I grew up in Revelstoke, BC and had no idea what I wanted to do career-wise. I had decided to take a year off school to save money and travel, but after a year of scanning groceries and an empty passport I knew it was time for something bigger and better.
Massage therapy has always interested me but I usually just tucked the thought away and moved on to other things. I've always had a passion for helping people and I was told I was good at massaging. (If that was a lie, then I'm in trouble!) I looked into this school and became more and more excited. I applied to the school and took a weekend introduction course to see if I could imagine myself doing this for the rest of my life.
And I could.
I quickly developed such a passion for the trade and I started getting an abundance of positive feedback from peers, family, and new clients who have stayed loyal throughout my schooling. It's an unreal feeling to have one session with someone and for them to leave with their pain completely gone. And then it doesn't come back for weeks! I love being inspired by what I do and I'm so thankful to be where I am today.

WHY SHOULD I GET A MASSAGE?
Massage therapy has many benefits other than just feeling like you need a nap after. Here's a short list of some of the great reasons to book a massage session:
-- improves local and systemic circulation
-- improve range of motion
-- enhance immunity
-- reducing scars and stretch marks
-- relax and soften injured, tired, or overused muscles
-- reduce muscle spasms and cramps
-- relieve migraine pain
-- lessen depression and anxiety
-- reduce adhesions and swelling
-- exercise and stretch weal, atrophied, or tight muscles
-- improve joint flexibility and health
-- release endorphins to reduce pain and improve mood
-- fosters sound sleep
-- normalizes blood pressure
-- speeds recovery from injury
-- reduce stiffness

Massage is a magical thing! I will work with your muscles, fascia, and joints to help you feel your very best and to hopefully decrease whatever symptoms you may be experiencing.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
In my practice I use a variety of different modalities such as Swedish relaxation massage, Myofascial Release, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Work, Joint Mobilizations, Hydrotherapy, and Therapeutic Exercise. I also will do a short assessment prior to each session (the first appointment may need more time for this) to determine normal range of motion or muscle strength/length. Before each session I will explain to you the area and nature of the treatment as well as any side effects and benefits. I will only continue this session after you are fully informed and give me consent to do so. I work with a specific tenderness scale aimed to give you the most beneficial and painless treatment. You have the power to change, modify or stop the treatment at any time. Your privacy will be maintained at all times and it is up to you to wear whatever make you feel comfortable (fully dressed, just your underwear on, or nothing at all). Throughout our treatments we will be keeping track of your progress so you can see how much you have improved since the first session.

I HAVE A MEDICAL/DIAGNOSED CONDITION THAT I WOULD LIKE ADDRESSED/LEFT ALONE...
Please let me know of any condition ahead of time. I use the time to research and prepare for the treatment and determine how I can help you best.

DO I NEED ANYTHING?
I will bring my massage table and oil to you. If you would like me to use your own oil or lotion due to allergies or sensitivities I have no problem with doing that. I use unscented apricot seed oil. The minimum I would like you to supply is two sheets (any size), a pillow, and a bath towel.

HOW MUCH IS A SESSION?
My wage for a relaxation massage or a "dependent" massage is $50 for an hour which includes the assessment time. (The first treatment should be 10-15 minutes longer) For students with their current student ID an hour is only $40.
The price varies depending on the service and where you are as I am based out of Lake Country, BC. I am regularly in Kelowna, Vernon, and Revelstoke. For more information about treatments, look under the "Services" tab. Please also note that at this point I am not registered so you cannot get these treatments paid off by your medical benefits.
