About Me

Hi! My name is Melissa Critchlow and I am a self taught artist hailing from beautiful Vancouver BC. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. Making art has always brought me a sense of peace and joy and filling my home with beautiful art and colours has always brought me a deep sense of richness in my life. It is my desire to help bring art into more people's homes in order to uplift and inspire and bring everyday joy into their lives.

As a child I knew from the start that I wanted to be an artist but was instead encouraged to take more traditional jobs that still allowed some creativity. For years I worked as a cook and then some offices that allowed me to explore project management. But those avenues never really fit and still felt stifling. Then, after the passing of my mother I realised that life was too short to not do what you love. So from there I enrolled in a creative writing program in University. It allowed me more creative freedom than I had previously had but there was still something missing. Not long after I was told about a beginners acrylics course I could take to help fill some credits in my program. It was there, when I entered the studio that I was filled with a thrill I had not felt in years. Sitting behind the easel and learning everything I could about colour theory, brush strokes and drawing I knew I was home. From there I never looked back and have been teaching myself how to paint ever since, exploring technique, colour and developing my own style.

Now I want to share my journey and passion with all of you and hopefully have the honour to help bring some of that passion, light and joy into your life.
