Lisa, a Métis woman whose family hails from the Lac La Biche, Alberta area (Mission area predominantly, however family on Buffalo Lake and Kikino Metis Settlements)

I have a very big desire to share my gift, with patterns or images that have probably been in my mind since childhood. Beads have always memorized me, ever since I saw a beaded necklace (which now I recognize as a loomed necklace) my grandpa beaded my mom, with her name on it. I use to run my fingers over the necklace all the time and the beads would move between my fingers. This was my first obsession with beads and always wondered why nobody in my family beaded or carried on the tradition. My mom, still has this necklace in her room till this day.

To me beads are a self expression of my heritage and culture, which I never want lost again in my family. Beading is a beautiful ceremony. One I want to honour.

I'm a self taught beader, this is my journey.
