Montreat is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is best known for Montreat Conference Center, Montreat College, and for being the home of evangelist Billy Graham and his late wife Ruth Bell Graham.GeographyMontreat is located in eastern Buncombe County at . Its eastern border is the county line, with McDowell County to the east. The town is located in the valley of Flat Creek and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The only road access is via North Carolina Highway 9, which leads southwest 2mi to the town of Black Mountain.According to the United States Census Bureau, Montreat has a total area of 7.1km2.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 630 people, 185 households, and 98 families residing in the town.
