Natural Environment Technology

The NET program is a three year DEC program which is offered in Chibougamau, Qc. The program has has been developed by the Cegep de St-Félicien and Niskamoon Corporation and is also financed by the Cree School Board. The program is offered to both Cree and non-Cree students and will train students in the use and management of natural resources. The program's instruction is completely in English and the program offers courses which incorporate both indoor classes with outdoor exercises where students exercise what they have learned. In some cases, learning takes place in the field where students 'learn on the go' using materials and tools to complete research. As well, the program offers both the scientific research methods and traditional knowledge methods of understanding and by incorporating both, the students of the NET program learn the scientific methods while maintaining and remaining close to their culture and communities.

By applying to the Cree School Board- Post Secondary Student Services students may receive financing for their studies and the program also offers incentive measures to help students adapt to living in Chibougamau. As well, summer job placements are available to students so that they may exercise their knowledge while getting experience within their field. Of course, students are paid during this internship.
