The Nootka School playground structure is wooden and aging. The Vancouver School Board has advised us that it must be demolished by Spring 2015 for safety reasons. We’ve embarked on a three year phased plan to replace it, with some new equipment being introduced as early as this fall potentially.
School playgrounds are not covered by provincial funding and it is the responsibility of the parents and community to fundraise to cover the costs. The estimated cost for the entire project is $150,000.
Our school grounds are used not only by the 428 students at Nootka and their families but also by others in the community: families with younger children, youth sports teams, tai chi classes and adults exercising to name just a few groups. Recognizing the widespread use by the community our goal is to create an inclusive space we all can play & develop in healthy ways – body, mind & spirit.
