Join us for the growing season! Our main project is called the Sharing Square Community Garden. The garden is located outside of the Municipality of the District of Chester building at 151 King Street in Chester. Sharing gardens are different than many community gardens where individuals or families rent separate plots. Instead, a sharing garden is managed collectively by a group and the food is available to anyone who needs it, regardless of whether or not they have contributed time, materials, or labour. Any surplus vegetables are donated to the food bank.
The garden is run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about growing fresh healthy food for the community. Our goals include:
1. Increasing access to healthy and affordable food for everyone
2. Building community by bringing people together to learn, celebrate, and build friendships
3. Developing the capacity of individuals to plant, tend, harvest, and preserve their own food
4. Increasing community resiliency by reducing dependance on food that comes from far away
We welcome you to join us in planting, tending, and harvesting this season! We are seeking new members for our organizing team, as well as folks who want to drop by once and a while to water the garden throughout the summer.
