Official Erma's Original Frozen Custard

Erma’s Original Frozen Custard began as a small roadside stand outside of downtown Utica in 1942 simply known as “The Custard Stand”. Originally, special frozen custard batch freezers were used to serve only vanilla custard in bowls to local patrons. Over the decades the menu grew by expanding flavors and options. Erma picked up where “The Custard Stand” left off . In 1974 she purchased the small store on Auburn Road renaming it “Erma’s Frozen Custard Stand”.

In 1981, she sold the business to the current owners. We have continued “Erma’s” tradition today through our creation of many fan favorites and the attention to detail it takes to make great frozen custard like she did. We changed the name in the 1980’s to Erma’s Original Frozen Custard, representing the unique way we make our special flavors and large repertoire of items.

As a landmark on Auburn Road for over 70 Years, multiple generations of Detroit patrons have come to love Erma’s Original Frozen Custard. In the spring of 2010, Erma’s Original Frozen Custard was the first business in Shelby Township to receive Historical Landmark status from the township as their oldest operating business!

We look forward to serving you at either one of our two convenient locations! 2010 was also the year that Erma’s opened its second location on 14 Mile Road in Warren, under the same ownership. Erma's Frozen Custard is open April 1 through October 31st, and offers a delicious selection of frozen custards, cones and sundaes, parfaits, shakes, malts, slushes, coolers, and soft drinks.
