Ontario Native Women's Charitable Foundation

Indigenous women in Canada remain one of the most marginalized groups in Canadian Society. If we believe that we can leave this world a better place, the need to address the ongoing and increasing poverty, violence and discrimination that Indigenous women and their families face becomes paramount. The impetus for the development of the Ontario Indigenous Women’s Charitable Foundation evolved from the leadership of the Ontario Native Women’s Association. In an effort to respond more effectively to the increasing and pervasive levels of violence against Indigenous women, the need for further development was evident to assist in this quest. Recognizing that this violence manifests itself in a variety of ways that is best responded too with a cultural/wholistic focus. The areas of education, leadership development and program/service supports in partnerships with others were prioritized. Through this process the vision for the Ontario Native Women’s Foundation was borne and was subsequently approved as a Federal Charity in 2011.
