Outdoor Initiatives

Founded in 2016, Pursuit Outdoor Initiatives builds on the work Pursuit Adventures has done since 2010. Pursuit Adventures' mission to inspire guests to experience their adventures and to introduce them to new ones while offering the best possible prices infuses everything we do. We share values, including not being bound by conventions, a belief that good enough just isn't and that staying focused on our passions drives results.

Our Focus
We believe that Central Alberta presents a world of opportunity for sustainable outdoor recreation.

Our first objective is to help Central Albertans discover and participate in outdoor activities. The Outdoor Playgroups and Outdoor Mavens programs start from a belief that adventure doesn't need to be complicated. By bringing together outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to get started, we create opportunities for conversations, sharing, learning and teaching new skills, meeting others and building confidence in the great outdoors.

In order to provide these opportunities we need to bring about positive change in critical areas including access, trail maintenance and signage. We appreciate that being successful in increasing use brings along its own challenges, from the need to mitigate impacts to promoting sustainable practices. We tackle these challenges through a mix of hands-on work, education and advocacy.

Our Approach
Pursuit Outdoor Initiatives is a registered Alberta nonprofit company, incorporated under Part 9 of the Companies Act. We are backed by Pursuit Adventures and we raise funds from other sources including donations, program fees, grants and partnerships. As a business-backed nonprofit, we have the opportunity to look past the typical grant cycle to tackle projects over the long term while being in a position to move quickly once a project is identified.

We provide the basic structure and support for our programs which are then lead by volunteers who have the flexibility to make them great. Creating communities of engaged outdoor enthusiasts has a much greater impact and allows us to work with a simple yet effective framework.
