IN FIRES, MOST DEATHS ARE CAUSED BY SMOKE

In 2014, there were 1,298,000 fires reported in the United States. These fires caused 3,275 civilian deaths, 15,775 civilian injuries, and $9.8 billion in property damage.

The number one cause of death related to fires remains smoke inhalation. An estimated 51% of fire deaths are the result of smoke inhalation injuries, while an additional 23% is caused by smoke inhalation and burns.

Because of the danger of inhaling smoke during a fire, we had the idea of developing an emergency product that would help reduce the number of deaths. This is how we came up with PEBA!

PEBA, for Personal Emergency Breathing Aid, is an emergency evacuation mask that can help save lives in various dangerous situations, as it will protect your eyes and respiratory system for a minimum of 15 minutes (in smoke or dust), thanks to its transparent face covering and filter system.

SIDE EFFECTS OF BREATHING SMOKE**

Peba will help protect you against the disastrous effects of smoke!

The components of wood smoke and cigarette smoke are quite similar. Wood smoke exposure can depress (reduce) your immune system and damage the layer of cells in your lungs that protect and cleanse the airways, and allow you to breath normally.

For those who are vulnerable, such as people with asthma, chronic respiratory diseases, and those with cardiovascular disease, wood smoke is particularly harmful— even short exposures can prove dangerous.

The particles of wood smoke are extremely small and therefore are not filtered out by your nose or upper respiratory system. Instead, these small particles end up deep in your lungs where they remain for months, causing structural damage and chemical changes. Wood smoke’s carcinogenic chemicals adhere to these tiny particles, which enter deep into your lungs.

Recent studies show that fine particles that go deep into your lungs could increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) warns that for people with heart disease, short-term exposures have been linked to heart attacks and arrhythmias.

WHO WE WANT TO PROTECT

PEBA is intended for:

CERTIFICATIONS MET TO SELL IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE

PEBA will be certified under 42 CFR Part 84, a certification by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The respirators certified under this regulation (intended to be used by workers) are tested under much more demanding conditions, and provide increased protection. Meeting this certification is another important feature of PEBA, making it a higher quality emergency product.

In Europe, PEBA will also meet En143, a European standard for all respirators. In other markets, appropriate certifications will be obtained when needed.

As well, PEBA 911 will meet FCC telecommunication certifications.

With time, PEBA and future generations of the mask will meet various standards and certifications that are in place in the consumer personal protective equipment market, such as:

Smoke and Fire safety Hood Mask conformity with USFA-FEMA standards;

European Standard EN 403;

Australian and New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1716:1994;

Thailand Disaster Prevention Department of the Interior Ministry;

Japanese Standard 248.

HOW WE WILL USE THE FUNDING OBTAINED FROM THE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN

Reaching our financing target will give us the ability to:

complete the development of PEBA, such as the final choice of material and components for the filtering system, the connectivity and LED hardware, the type of plastic resin for the case, etc.;

obtain US and European certifications described above;

chose the most efficient suppliers for PEBA's different components;

sut-up assembly facility in North America with planned delivery of your PEBA in July 2016 at the latest;

Organize the managing and sales functions, as well as full ramp up of the business to make it a success.

NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

We will be pursuing our research and development efforts with the goal of continually improving PEBA, adding other life saving features, as well as coming up with new generations of the product, such as PEBA Junior and PEBA CO (carbon dioxide).

We will also be open to adapting our products to clients' specific needs on special orders.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR

We have fully functioning prototypes of PEBA and at this point everything looks very good, as these meet our expectations in terms of the benefits they will bring to their owners. Any improvements that may be identified during the remaining of the development and testing stages will be addressed and implemented.

Our next step will be to enter into negotiations with suppliers we have identified, for the manufacturing of PEBA's components.

Finally, we will be choosing a location in North America for establishing our assembly and shipping facility, allowing us to be closer to the final steps of the manufacturing process and guaranteeing a higher level of quality control.

As PEBA is built with off-the-shelf components, there are no manufacturing risks, thus ensuring that we will be in a position to deliver the first PEBA in July 2016 at the latest.

CERTIFICATIONS

Previous generations of PEBA have received the certifications described above, thus we do not foresee any certification related problems with this new generation of PEBA.

HELPING THE COMMUNITY

The simple fact of having your PEBA will bring you a sense of security. We hope that the owners of a PEBA will never be in a situation in which they have to use it.
