Poor Mans Yacht Club

PMYC was organized in 1962. Five years later, the members leased a 1/2 acre island and 2 1/2 acres of marshland. After dredging a canal, land was filled where the land was low, and the island grew to its present size of three acres. An old work boat and barge, purchased by the club, hauled materials to build docks and a steel seawall. Grass and trees were planted; electricity was installed at each dock. Portable cement mixers, sand, stone, cinder block, and steel were hauled from the mainland by barge and a 30’x70’ clubhouse was erected, complete with showers, toilets, and a kitchen.
