More about Primal Strength Systems

Primal Strength Systems was founded by Strength Coach Terry Rea in 2012. With an emphasis on strength and movement, our goal is to help everyday people and athletes move, feel and perform better in their daily lives and chosen activites. We help build strong, athletic, healthy, injury resistant bodies through effective, movement based training.

The foundations of Primal Strength Systems

Stability – We believe it is extremely important to prepare the body for improved strength and movement capacity by first teaching and ensuring it’s ability to stabilize itself. Addressing aspects of the human movement system that can disrupt your balance, proper joint alignment or effective muscle activation and recruitment, will better prepare you for effective strength gains and movement improvements.

Strength – The benefits to strength training are countless. It’s foundational. Your strength is what holds you up, keeps you going and makes everything else you do easier and more effective. Primal Strength Systems derives from strength. It is the attribute dearest to our hearts. It’s who we are. Increased bone density, improved sport performance, decreased blood pressure and improved heart function, overall improvement in physical ability. Regardless of your health and fitness goals, strength training should be an integral part of your experience to ensure your body’s optimal performance and longevity.

Movement – The human body is capable of astounding and diverse levels of movement. We are meant to move. It is in our nature and is a major key to staying young and vibrant. Our current lifestyles severely limit our movement repertoire. Often times limting us to only a small and repetitive set of actions. This can inhibit and alter our body’s proper joint and muscle function, leading to a host of issues and injuires that detract from our health and well being. A focus on maintaining proficiency in base movement plains and basic patterns such as squatting, lunging, hinging, pushing, pulling and rotation as well as combining these movements using the body’s integrated subsystems will help ensure your success in any chosen goal, while also improving your overall feeling of health and vitality.

Holistic – We believe in the idea that the body is a holistic space. Everything is connected. What we eat and drink, how we think, breath and move. How we see ourselves, the world and the people around us. One thing or system affects the others. Nutrition, sleep, stress, exercise and mindset all play an intertwined role in our health. All the little things we do for ourselves add up. Whether they are good or bad for us, they affect our ultimate well being.

Personal growth and Spirituality – This area of our philosophy is extremely important to us. It has some aspects of subjectivity and may be intangible to some, but ultimately comes down to self awareness/knowledge, consciousness, truth and meaning. We believe in regular introspection. Living and staying connected to the present. Improving your ability to understand yourself and the world around you. Increase your emotional intelligence and practice empathy, understanding, tolerance and stoicism. Learn what matters most to you and fill your life with it. Live it, be a representation of it. Persue a life full of meaning, whatever that is to you. Believe in something bigger than yourself.

Our bodies can be prisons of restricted movement. Unstable, painful and poorly aligned joints. Weak, tight or inhibited muscles. A mind and spirit that is limited, dulled and impaired due to poor lifestyle choices and unhealthy habits. But our bodies can also be healthy and vibrant. They can be strong examples of what human beings are and should be capable of. Our mission is to help everyone discover the beauty that is a healthy, strong, athletic, movement efficient body and to experience a world seen through the eyes of someone living with these qualities and abilities.
