1. Aikido: pronounced "eye key doe"
This classical Japanese martial art uses flowing, circular movement to defend against the force of an attacker, turning his own energy back upon himself. A beautiful and powerful art, Aikido requires little strength, and is based on the battle field techniques of the Japanese samurai.
Learn to handle: strikes, grabs, chokes, falls, multiple attackers.
Learn also: Sword work, staff, knife take-aways, pins, more.
2. Modern Arnis
This Filipino martial art involves the use of weapons, primarily the cane, although the techniques can be transferred to blade and empty hand use. This is an effective martial art that is particularly suited to those wanting to learn an art but may have a physical limitation of one kind or another, as practice is done primarily standing while working with a partner.
