Short description:
Rhythmic Gymnastics is one of the five Gymnastics disciplines. Women Artistic, Men Artistic, Trampoline and Aerobic are the other four. Rhythmic Gymnastics is an Olympic sport in which an individual or a group combine the skills of ballet, gymnastics and dance with apparatus handling such as rope, ball, hoop, ribbon, and clubs during choreographed routines on a chosen piece of music. The routines usually take place on a mat, floor, or on stage.
Rhythmic Gymnastics is a very complex sport. In the area of development we can say it is the ideal sport for girls and because it uses a variety of skills in equal proportions, the result is a perfectly balanced body and mind.
Rhythmic Gymnastics develops skill sets such as:
Motor: balance, agility, coordination
Physical: strength, speed, flexibility, grace
Psychological/Social: social interaction, self-esteem, individuality
Cognitive: rhythm, musicality, spatial awareness, memory, creativity
Healthy lifestyle: nutrition, physical activity, structure, discipline
Rhythmic Gymnastics is now offered in Fredericton as part of the newly founded Rhapsody RG School.
Classes are conducted by former gymnast and member of the National Team of Romania, Miruna Timotin. She is a certified Canadian NCCP level 2, Head Coach.
