A little bit about us:

Our names are Alexandra Boyd and Jessica Fischer and we are the owners of Sault Doulas. Jessica is a certified labour and delivery doula and Alexandra is currently working on her certification!

What is a Doula?

As a Doula we are here to offer informational, emotional and physical support during your pregnancy, labour, delivery and postnatal period.

We guide and support women and their partners continuously throughout labour and birth. We are on call for you, arrive at your home or the hospital when you need us, and remain with you continuously, with few or no breaks until after the baby is born. We are trained and experienced in providing emotional support, physical comfort (massage, acupressure, labouring positions and techniques) and nonclinical advice.

Prenatally, we provide information to help you plan what you would like for your birth and go over what options you never knew you had! We will attend a prenatal visit with you and your health care provider. During labour and birth, we provide continuous support and help the family work smoothly through the process. We support normal physiologic labour (or the way the body optimally works without outside intervention). We also help facilitate communication between the labouring family and the medical staff and will be your advocate. If you are having a home birth we will help with the setup and clean up. Postpartum we provide additional information and answer any questions or concerns as needed and to complete and close off our file.

As a Doula we don’t perform clinical and medical tasks such as taking blood pressure, checking the cervix, and giving medication. We don’t diagnose medical conditions such as pre-eclampsia, fetal heart tone abnormalities and gestational diabetes. However; we will go over results, treatments and options to help you make informed decisions.

2 Prenatal visits (1.5 – 2 hours long)
1 Prenatal visit with your health care provider
On call support via phone, text and email
Labour and Delivery Services
2 Postpartum visits (1.5- 2 hours long)
Initial breastfeeding support

* All visits are done at the client’s home or an agreed meeting place.
