Vision:

In 5 years, more individuals and their families along the South Shore experience the benefits of daily physical activity. Communities, schools and workplaces collaboratively embrace and encourage a physically active lifestyle through: supportive policy development; increased access to opportunities; enhanced places to be active (both built and natural) and; increased knowledge and skill development.

Aims:

To coordinate and share social marketing resources and learning opportunities in order to improve attitudes towards and an awareness of the benefits of physical activity. (Family focus; individual focus; rural focus)

To target our efforts so as to maximize partner support for inactive/least active populations.

To be a regional leader in providing our partners with improved organizational capacity to support physical activity.

Activities:

The South Shore Active Communities Partnership develops and monitors a work plan for the region, which includes

Coordinating components of the provincial Active Kids/Healthy Kids (AKHK) Strategy in the region, where appropriate. For more information on the AKHK strategy, visit Active Kids/Healthy Kids (AKHK) site.

Coordinating capacity building opportunities in the region. For example, we recently hosted two events, Social Marketing 101 and the Physical Activity Networking Forum.
Providing linkages among organizations, resources and initiatives.
Researching and disseminating evidence around physical activity best practices to schools, municipalities, community organizations and workplaces.
Coordinating effective communication among partners in physical activity.
Providing support and capacity building to local active transportation (AT) initiatives in Yarmouth County and Bridgewater. Visit the Town of Bridgewater for more information on their AT work.
